The idea of travelling is still up in the air for some (pun intended). But if you’re looking to escape without packing along these common worries, there are a few things you can do ahead of time to ensure your trip runs smoothly.
1. What if I lose my bag?
You’ve probably heard the stories: luggage piled up in airports, and passengers frantic to find lost bags. Make sure you’re not left stranded without the essentials by packing the most important items in your carry on. This includes medications, prescriptions, a few toiletries, money and documentation. Other items you should consider bringing with you, if you have space, are a swimsuit and a few extra pieces of clothing.
If you do find yourself without pants, though, there are ways to make sure you’re compensated. Purchasing baggage coverage along with your emergency medical or trip cancellation or interruption insurance means you can be reimbursed for lost, stolen, damaged or delayed baggage.
2. What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
There’s some truth to the old description of a “weary traveller.” Travelling often involves a lot of waiting, and sometimes longer than expected if a flight is delayed or cancelled.
It can be even more stressful if you’re rushing to make a connecting flight. When booking multiple flights, avoid additional stress by ensuring there’s enough time in between. That way, you’ll also have a few extra minutes to grab a cup of coffee.
Another way to calm any nerves is to cover yourself with trip cancellation or interruption insurance. If you do find yourself in a situation where one or more of your flights are postponed, you’ll be at ease knowing you’re covered. And when you purchase a travel insurance plan with us, you can even register for our flight delay service at no extra cost up to one hour ahead of your departure time. This provides you access to an airport lounge for a delay of three hours or more and access to a hotel room for a delay of six hours or more.
3. How will I juggle all of the documents I need to bring?
Don’t you wish you had an extra hand while going through security? Juggling baggage, plane tickets, identification and other paperwork is frustrating. One way to keep collected is to use a travel folder or passport holder.
With our travel insurance options, you can pick and choose all of the coverage selections you want and have them all in one place including a digital version of your Alberta Blue Cross® ID card sent to you in one email. That way, you’re not left balancing a bunch of loose paper.
4. What if I get sick while I’m travelling?
It happens to the best of us. Whether it’s a stomach bug or a cold, the risk is there. But you can put your mind at ease by packing a few over-the-counter medications, just in case.
If you’re worried about catching COVID-19 and being stuck in a foreign location, protection for COVID-19 with our emergency medical insurance can help reassure you that you’ll be taken care of. You will be covered for medical expenses including costs to quarantine.
5. How will I know who to contact if something happens?
Before travelling, it helps to keep a note of emergency contacts and important numbers in case any of the above happens. Know the number of your travel assistance provider, your hotel and even your cat sitter if things go awry. And of course, make sure you have your electronic travel agreement and Alberta Blue Cross® ID card so you can reach us in a pinch.
