Apply to be a face of wellness for a chance to win a grand prize weekend in the Alberta Rockies.

We launched the Faces of Wellness program in 2021. This program celebrates Albertans who are champions for wellness and have embraced the courage to overcome. Each year, the program recognizes those making positive lifestyle changes toward becoming healthier, promoting a health-related cause, making the most of life while living with a chronic condition, advocating for wellness in their workplace, standing up for mental health or acting as a role model for others. We are once again looking for inspiring people to showcase and reward.

People like Ufuoma Muwhen, the grand prize finalist of the 2023 Faces of Wellness program. Ufuoma lived with the emotional and physical challenges of sickle cell disease for 18 years. Cured after a bone marrow transplant, she wanted to be an advocate and positive light for others with sickle cell disease. She created NotJustYou, a nonprofit sickle cell support organization that provides a platform for individuals to connect, share experiences and access support.

In 2023, the Faces of Wellness campaign received more than 220 applications and nominations. These applications included an acupuncturist living with endometriosis and Hashimoto’s disease who focuses on reproductive health and fertility while advocating for women’s health, as well as a sheriff who suffered a traumatic work incident and now shares his recovery journey with his colleagues to help them maintain their health.

There are many inspiring honourees of the 2023 Faces of Wellness program. People like Evan James Mudryk, a brain hemorrhage and stroke survivor who now educates people through social media and guest lectures. And Enessa Habib who started YEG Honeycomb, a project designed to bring bees to historic locations throughout Edmonton while helping vulnerable and marginalized groups benefit from positive social connections and moments of mindfulness.

“The journey has been healing for me and others as we care for and tend to the bees in a gentle way,” says Enessa. “This creature is more vulnerable and fragile than us. It allows us to reflect inward and look at what we need to do to take care of ourselves and where we fit within nature.”
